View this post on Instagram There is SO MUCH important information being shared on social media right now, from marches to fundraisers to digital events in support of Black lives. So often I can’t read digital graphics without extreme effort or straining my eyes, and I know that means there are lots more people missing out on crucial info! Legibility is so important in movement dissemination because if the revolution isn’t accessible, it’s not a revolution. Beyond image descriptions, captions, and alt text, there are some things to keep in mind while designing flyers and resources to be consumed digitally. I’m not a graphic designer, but my professional life is in the realm of making sure websites are easy to use, which includes design heuristics. I compiled 5 best practices for graphic design (specifically for instagram) to help people get their messages out loud and clear. Feel free to share, no need to tag or credit me :) Additionally, if anyone is creating digital graphic resources for activism and would like me to give feedback on how to make their design more accessible, my DMs are open! ASPECT RATIO: Your insta post does not have to be a square!!!! Get more space to make your font larger or fit more important info into the graphic by expanding the height of your image. Use the aspect ratio 4:5, or 1080 x 1350 pixels. STORYTELLING: Include all important details when applicable like who, what, where, when, why. Sometimes event flyers take up so much space listing hosts or less important data that they don’t even include the time and place. TEXT HIERARCHY: Put your most important information in the largest font so people can scan and read quickly. You don’t want to make people work to get the info, you want to spoon feed them! READABILITY: This includes many things like adequate spacing between words (kerning) and line height, using sans sarif fonts, using no more than 2 fonts. Ask a friend before posting if they can EASILY read your flyer on their phone. CONTRAST: The higher the contrast between background and foreground colors, the better. If colors are too close together, the words blend into the background and are not easily read. (continued in comment) A post shared by @ daemonumx on Jun 10, 2020 at 5:09pm PDT

View this post on Instagram UPDATE: IN THE WAKE OF LENGTHY DETAINMENTS DISREGARDING HABAES CORPUS IN NYC, MANHATTAN, BROOKLYN AND BRONX DA’S ALL ANNOUNCE THEY WILL NOT PROSECUTE PROTESTORS FOR UNLAWFUL ASSEMBLY, VIOLATING CURFEW AND DISORDERLY CONDUCT. ——————————————————————————— SHARE THIS WITH ANY AND EVERYONE YOU KNOW MAY BE AFFECTED. Habeas Corpus has officially been suspended in NYC to regain control of the population protesting George Floyd and Police Brutality. The order went in effect late last night. “People keep saying habeas corpus has been suspended in NYC for protesters but nope it has been suspended for everyone,” activist and podcast host Kate Willett said. “Anyone can be detained indefinitely for any reason in NYC right now, that’s the whole thing habeas corpus exists to prevent.” Habeas Ciorpus is a 900-year-old legal right given to citizens to protect them against law enforcement illegally imprisoning them. It is generally considered the bedrock of the American and British legal systems. Translation: All gloves are off. Be even more communicative, smart, intentional and impactful during this time. We WILL NOT stop demanding justice for Blacks in America. We will continue to fight... jus remember everyone... All Gloves Are OFF. A post shared by S3R (@sermon3) on Jun 5, 2020 at 6:42pm PDT

View this post on Instagram LINK IN BIO: A SHORTCUT THAT BLURS FACES. In the past 24 hours, I managed to find a developer who was down to make an idea come to fruition in a short amount of time. We designed/developed an iOS shortcut that allows protestors to choose a specific photo they wish to share on and it blurs out all the faces within the picture. The bonus is that it makes a copy of the photo that has zero-meta data attached to the said photo (no location, time, etc.) We need to protect those people out there protesting with the Black Lives Matter movement. There are tons of articles out there for a super convoluted way of blurring images and getting rid of the metadata. This shortcut does it all. Fight the good fight. Please only use this shortcut for these types of photos as I'm paying out of pocket the services at the moment. There's donation information within the link below. This donation goes towards server and software costs. All excess funds will be used for bail funds and other Black owned organizations. #BLM #blacklivesmatter #georgefloyd #privacy #blacklivesmatter✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 #protest A post shared by 강주인 (@noahconk) on Jun 3, 2020 at 3:59am PDT
