i'm posting these on my page because i'm seeing the discourse devolve into "white ppl want the killer cops to go free" and i want to loudly say that as a Black abolitionist & anarchist i do not believe in criminal justice system as a tool for real justice. i do not believe that arresting or charging those cops will solve any of our problems or get to the root of the foundational rot . a lot of the pushback i'm seeing is based on the idea that abolition doesn't offer any "real" solutions and that just isn't true. we have the POWER to ask for MORE right now. we can ask for the departments to be completely defunded. we can ask for their pensions to be reappropriated. we can ask for a radical shift in the funding priorities of the counties that these murders happen in . i'm seeing claims that abolition is unrealistic but if u ask me calling for an unjust system to suddenly provide justice is the more unrealistic request. our anger is justified. our desire for vengeance is justified. abolitionists aren't asking us to put our anger away or let these killer cops go without consequences. abolition calls us to remember that police violence is a structural issue and devote our energies to uprooting the rot from the foundation.

Everything is intersectional. How does allyship and the fight for social justice intersect with gentrification and a long history of housing discrimination and disinvestment from Communities of Color? This thread doesn’t go into white flight, the specific laws enforced by banks and police that perpetuated redlining, broken windows, the war on drugs, or stop and frisk. It looks at recent NYC-specific information on gentrification. What can you do as a gentrifier and ally? 〰️ Remember you are entering a community with pre-existing culture. 〰️ Pre-existing neighbors aren’t required to make you feel comfortable. 〰️ Demanding a neighborhood, it’s residents, and businesses meet your expectations is white supremacist. 〰️ Ask yourself why the need for a 311 call. 〰️ Check your friends, too. 〰️ Pose the question: why do I feel emboldened to weaponize my whiteness against BIPOC? 〰️ Understand that your presence makes many feel uneasy, as it’s indicative of an oncoming change that usually means being priced out of one’s neighborhood. Allyship is accountability. Graphics & statistical data from the article “New Neighbors and the Over-Policing of Communities of Color.” By @har_olddd, Lecturer in Discipline at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. #blacklivesmatter #lasvidasnegrasimportan

spent yesterday creating this informative post on different situations going on at the minute in the world which have received less media coverage than they should. It actually took much longer than expected as I, myself needed to educate myself on the events that I didn’t even realise were happening. The media loves to pick and choose at what they tell us, it is so selective and it is actually shocking to read the horrifying things that are taking place in this modern world. We need to do better. • I’m definitely going to be doing a part 2 of this as there are a lot of things that I want to still cover, if you have anything you would like me to speak about, then just let me know 😙 And if this post has helped or informed you in any way, then please give it a share to educate others 😛 • ** EDIT: just wanted to correct myself where I mentioned that Yemen and Saudi Arabia are in an ongoing war! There is actually a civil war that has been going on within Yemen for years 💚 • also check my recent post and the link in bio for all my sources for this post and the links on how to help 💜 #blacklivesmatter #blm #rohingya #yemen #yemencrisis #justiceforgeorgefloyd #racisminuk #uyghur #uyghurmuslims #slavery #libya #libyaslavetrade #explore #justiceforbreonnataylor #justiceforahmaud #london #acab #defundthepolice #blackart #justiceforbellymujinga #blackartist #blackartistspace

fighting for a clean planet means fighting for racial justice. as the #blacklivesmatter movement demands fundamental changes to our society, we’re reminded how systemic racism shapes environmental harm. people of color disproportionately shoulder the risks of waste, pollution, and the climate crisis. we hope this primer helps guide your understanding. follow these organizations to learn more: @cjaourpower @earthjustice @nrdc_org @greenaction_ej sources: @unitedchurchofchrist’s study on hazardous waste sites: https://bit.ly/2Y4p0LO @ej4allnow’s analysis of chemical emergency danger zones: https://bit.ly/3fsPM6i @epagov’s study on air pollution disparities: https://bit.ly/30u2Hko @nrdc_org’s study on contaminated drinking water: https://on.nrdc.org/2Y1DED

Hi ♥️ As we get back to posting lifestyle, fashion, food, etc content, it’s important to continue the work & continue using our voices to normalize these conversations in our everyday lives. There’s A LOT of work to be done, and it starts at the individual level. I’ve created a list of literature, film and podcasts that we can continue to learn from to better understand racism and the experiences of the Black community. I’ve included both educational (raw and real) and light hearted content that you can incorporate into your reading lists and regular scheduled programming. 100 resources may seem overwhelming, but it’s just meant to be a guide you can refer back to. [edit: some films have been removed from sites/only available in certain countries, but all films can still be found online]

As the world continues to open the curtain on systemic racism, we’d be remiss to not address how this impacts healthcare access. ⁣ ⁣ From gaps in health insurance coverage to lack of services, racial discrimination and disparity is widespread in today’s healthcare system.⁣ ⁣ Here are some examples we find deeply upsetting:⁣ ⁣ ▪️Regardless of risk level, black women are less likely than white women to undergo genetic testing meant to detect early signs of diseases, cancer, and illnesses, largely because physicians fail to recommend them.⁣ ⁣ ▪️Black women are 2.5 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women.⁣ ⁣ ▪️Black neighborhoods are 67% more likely to lack a local primary care physician. ⁣ ⁣ ▪️Experiences of racism have a wear and tear impact on the body, putting black communities at risk for accelerated aging and serious health problems. ⁣ ⁣ ▪️There is the mistaken belief in the medical community that black individuals have a higher pain threshold, therefore black patients are 22% less likely than white patients to receive pain medications.⁣ ⁣ Here are some organizations that are working hard to support health care equality within the black community:⁣ ⁣ @blackmamasmatter⁣ @sistersong_woc⁣ @sisterloveinc⁣ @blkwomenshealth⁣ @sparkrjnow⁣ @BrokenBrownEgg⁣ @birthequity⁣ ⁣ We've built our service with the goal of increasing access to underserved individuals, but there's so much more to do. While we figure out how to make it more impactful for the black community, Simple Health is matching employee donations and so far we've donated to Color of Change and Campaign Zero. We hope you'll join us in donating if you can. ⁣

Today is a day of action in Philadelphia to make demands about the 2021 city budget. Philly Thrive joins with organizations across Philly to demand a budget that communicates that #BlackLivesMatter. Our demands include defunding the police and fully funding services for the health & safety of Philly families by having the wealthy in our city pay more taxes to support the well-being of those hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic. ➖ In Philly Thrive, we know that racism is one of the roots of environmental destruction, and we cannot have climate justice without racial and economic justice. Increasing funding to the police is part of a 400 year long history of deep racist history, with police forces starting as slave catchers through today with police brutality and targeted policing. ➖ CALL TO ACTION: In this moment of peoples' uprisings, have your voice heard on our city budget -- send an email to all 17 Council Members, as well as Mayor Kenney and the Managing Director, using the link in our bio. We send out an email from you to every city council member. You can do this from home and it will take 10 minutes, if that! Comment below to let us know that you did.

The viral video of Haley challenging her racist parents has gone viral for Folks inspired by her desire to stand up to her parents and advocate for Black people. However, Haley missed the mark and my hunch is most white folks do. STOP arguing with your white family about Black people. START talking about the sickness that is whiteness and how you and them have ingested it. White people talk about people of color so that they don't have to deal with themselves and the culture and systems whiteness has created inside them. White people it is time to talk about WHITENESS and not about Black folks. #indefenseofblacklives #whitesupremacymustfall #whitestalkaboutwhiteness #healyourwhiteness #blacklivesmatter

💕💕 / @vaquera.nyc : “Fighting racism does not end at social media or protesting in the streets. We can work to dismantle racism by having conversations in our homes amongst white peers and family members. We have highlighted just a few topics from the @patiasfantasyworld database which can be found in full at the links in our highlights or go to https://pfw.guide - Thank you @spookybauhaus for the design 🖤”

been asked by family and friends recently what ACAB means, here’s a drawing of how I explain it to people who are looking from the outside in. Explaining these things to white family members can be hard but it is important. Attempt to change their perspective by having open conversations about the unjust treatment of black people, systematic racism, and white privilege. If you don’t have the words, there’s multiple sources that have well written answers for common questions (such as the question of- “what about good cops?) that i could gladly point you towards. Also, ACAB EDIT: there is now a link in my bio to resources on how to talk to family members, educate yourself & get involved. I will be posting resources of this variety in my story as well.

8 can't wait is a cop out. here is why. please feel free to share with creds, please feel free to dm me, we're all learning - i am just tired of people using "more reporting and tracking" and "defund the police" in the same sentence like those 2 things can coexist. also, i am still learning! so i will not have universal answers for you 🥰

My friends & family asked me to share my experience with LAPD from peacefully protesting this past Monday. Please share this & tag anyone you think needs to see this to hold the LAPD & state accountable. Spread awareness. This is unacceptable. #endpolicebrutality #defundthepolice #blacklivesmatter
